An ambitious officer, Lieutenant Henry D'Aulnay-Pradelle, sends two soldiers over the top and then surreptitiously shoots them in the back to incite his men to attack the German lines. Two witnesses to this crime, Albert and Édouard, struggle to reintegrate into society after the war. Two great swindles are invented – one fictional and one based on real events - which reflect a country recovering from one of the darkest periods in history. By turns tender, comedic, and ghoulish, Lemaitre focuses on the soldiers left behind after the war. An engaging and unforgettable read. Recommended by Beth. Latest album by Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains) is absolutely fantastic. Especially like "Afterglow". Always loved his solo material as well as AIC. Such a great guitar player, vocalist and outstanding songwriter.

Saw the new Becoming Led Zeppelin film with my mate Bob at the iMax at the Glasgow science centre. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Both came away really impressed with John Paul Jones. He seems so down to Earth as well as being such an immense talent. The live performances were also ace and suitably loud!

My Epiphone Firebird Studio in matte cherry red. This is a made in Korea model I've had since around '06. Over the years it has been customised with Seymour Duncan pickups (SH 14 custom 5 in the bridge and Alnico II pro in neck position) , a gotoh bridge, graphtech nut and saddles and also the newer version of the Steinberger tuners. I've got it tuned to Eb standard. Love this guitar- it's really fun to play.
