this jobs thing, like male loneliness, is able to achieve a certain kind of discursive magic: it is able to particularize what is in fact a widespread issue, affecting large parts of the population, and then get people to dismiss the problem altogether because of the initial reactionary diagnosis.

The coverage on the front page of nearly every news site and almost uniformly negative. Eventually we are have to face the fact that the news cannot and will not do political work for us.
I understand the gerontocracy has a stranglehold on American politics, but it's wild that we're cutting Medicaid in part so we can give seniors a $6000 tax deduction just for being seniors and there's ~zero negative coverage of the issue

There is no possible interesting answer to those kinds of posts, and even if you had one, it would be ignored. Nobody cares about anyone else’s answers. They just like thinking about themselves and filling out surveys.

Here's the thing. We've been feeding the trolls for over a decade. Look where it got us.
For folks saying,"Ignore the Pope thing! He wants to offend you! Don't you get it!" I have this rule I follow. I say what I think. I don't get into second order head games in which I think I'm outwitting someone else by strategically not saying what I think. Perhaps Im simple. But that's how I roll.

this article boils down to "hierarchy is a natural human impulse, and you can try to adopt personal norms of egalitarianism to ward against it, but unfortunately the electorate is too evil right now." not true or useful.

You want to know why people don't trust institutions? It's not because they've been poisoned by bad information. It's because they've watched these same institutions repeatedly fail while claiming infallibility.

One thing young people have learned over and over: you can be a young person of conscious, using your voice to challenge power, and the NYT will never talk to you, only publish the things billionaires say about you, but if you are a contrarian willing to defend power you get a whole profile
publishing this on the first day of Black History Month is so fucked up lol
