Printmaking is a tactile medium. Finger specializes in relief printing, which is when an artist places an image on a block and carves out negative space.

In case you missed it, here's one of my favorite features from 2025 (so far). I'm also actively seeking recommendations for future participants in this series, lovingly referred to in the newsroom as "unusual living."

The @cascadiadaily.com newsroom is usually focused on reporting. Unless it's the annual holiday potluck brunch and Secret Santa gift exchange.

Then, we eat local donuts (Lafeen's), homemade dishes and yes, still reflect on the news. Because #journalism.

Oh, I'm the empty chair in the foreground.

@finnwendt.com and I have been working on the MIC series for almost a year now. I can now recite the basics of lutherie, jam- and cheese-making, spontaneous fermentation, flower farming, coffee roasting, upcycling and, most recently ... chicken genetics. (You should recruit me for your trivia team.)
In case you missed it: "Made in Cascadia" is a multipart series highlighting makers and artisans in Whatcom and Skagit counties, written by CDN's lifestyle editor @cocoalaney.bsky.social

Even though chickens at Spring Creek Heritage Farms are top of the market, meat is secondary to their overall mission.

The Bellingham farm's top aim is providing breeders, homesteaders, farmers and “backyard birders” with live chicks — particularly rare breeds that might otherwise be lost.

Old City Hall, perhaps Bellingham's most iconic structure, has survived two potential tear-downs, the second in the wake of a devastating fire. It was rebuilt thanks to a 12-year restoration project fueled by a passionate community.

This is one of my favorite things I've written for CDN as of late! Writing about history is fun (especially if it means I get to hang out in the Whatcom Museum's archives, look at old photos and/or obsess over a taxidermy bird collection).
“Being a newcomer in 2007, this building anchored the whole town to me,” said Patricia Leach, Whatcom Museum’s executive director. “And I think that many people who live here, who were born and raised here, feel the same way. It’s iconic.”
