Earlier today reports circulated of ICE agents at Skagit Valley College. I walked the campus myself and an SVC security guard told me around 2:00 they got a call about possible ICE activity but could not find any evidence. It is unclear what prompted the reports but it appears to be a false alarm.

All things end. Including, now, deadlines. After more than three years, I'm ending my regular business contributions to Cascadia Daily News.

It's been a good run. And worthy of a brief essay for a Frank assessment of business in #Whatcom and #Skagit counties.

Thank you, CDN. Because #journalism.

🧵I was introduced to Dr. Nicholas Muff because he is a world-class railroad modeler. He is elite. No detail is too small.

One day when I was visiting, he was planting sugarcane stalks smaller than a toothpick -- one at a time -- along a stretch of his HO-scale Kansas City Southern Railroad tracks.

New, really fascinating analysis from Cascade PBS on the Christian nationalism that has found footholds in the name of some local so-called non-denominational churches.
How Seattle fits into the modern Christian Nationalist playbook
Stoking outrage in progressive cities is part of the game plan for evangelical preachers like Sean Feucht, whose influence has been steadily growing.

Your friendly reminder that ballots are due today at 8 p.m. in Washington.

This morning at the Skagit County election center, an official told me they’d only received 14% of ballots that were mailed out — not totally surprising for an off-year election where many precincts didn’t have a primary.

What impresses me almost as much as the Lummi Nation's full-court press against fentanyl is the price tag of this project.

For $1.7 million dollars, the Lummi Nation leveraged opioid settlements to create 40 private units with wraparound services.

Today's rabbit hole: While researching the Temporary Flight Restriction over Skagit County this upcoming weekend, I noticed that three "permanent" TFRs in the U.S. have been active for over a decade, so I looked into it. TFRs typically span just days to coincide with big events or military activity.
