Software engineer/architect running on the hamster wheel of work in healthcare IT. Avid reader of speculative fiction, some time computer gamer, and inveterate technology tinkerer. Former "conservative/libertarian" turned progressive by age and faith.
Holy cow! How right he was!
Hey, yeah, I know it's an "off year" (in every sense of the word), but get out there and vote.

Given the revisionist bullshit I have to say set the record straight about Charlie Kirk.

The last time I checked, state ownership of the means of production was a core tenet of communism.

$85 million dollars to move a retired Space Shuttle to Texas. This is a completely unnecessary expense. This is pork, plain and simple, and demonstrates the lie that the current administration and Republicans in Congress are concerned about waste, fraud, and abuse.

Absolutely. President Zelenskyy did not provoke Russia’s invasion. Ukraine did not take Russian territory until long after Russia’s incursion into Ukraine. Putin is not a friend to US or global interests. It is cowardly for Trump to submit to Putin and a betrayal of our values.
Please. No more speeches in the Senate about “freedom” until one Republican has the guts to stand up to Trump’s lies about Ukraine & Putin. Ukraine did not start this horrific war. Russia did. Zelensky isn't a dictator. Putin is. The US must not enter into an alliance with Putin.

Wholeheartedly agree.

I’m not surprised that Trump is once again trying to eliminate trans service members from the military, but I’m angry. I’m particularly angry about the verbiage that being trans “conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle, even in one’s personal life”.

What a delightful little vignette!
ADVENTURER: Dragon! We are here for your gold! Prepare to die!
DRAGON: My gold?
ADVENTURER: Yes! We climbed this great mountain, swam it's flooded caverns and-
DRAGON: Fair enough
ADVENTURER: Wait, what?
DRAGON: It's yours
ADVENTURER:
DRAGON: How are you carrying it out of here?
ADVENTURER: Um... /1

I couldn’t agree more. Weaknesses in character are fundamental to espionage - knowingly placing someone with Hegeseth’s documented issues in a position of power and influence is beyond irresponsible.
The Secretary of Defense is too important a job for someone with Pete Hegseth’s sick personality, lack of experience and zero qualifications. He’s a danger to the nation.

A lot of folks are giving up in advance. Capitulating before a single skirmish.

Well, not this old warrior. I’ve seen much worse from the U.S. government in my day. I’m concerned for our country, but not a bit scared of these miscreants. I’m ready to do my part.

Who’s with me?

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Each year, the trans community loses too many lives, especially trans women of color, to hate and violence.

More than ever, we must stand by our trans family and support them, hold space for them, and insist the scapegoating and targeting stop.

Now.

Obligatory first post. I love science, philosophy, and technology. My career focus is technology in healthcare; I believe we can help patients and practitioners achieve better outcomes. My chosen faith is Unitarian Universalist. I love reading speculative fiction and learning as much as I can.
