I’ve read Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune each several times. I always get stuck at God Emperor of Dune. Not sure why…

Gerardus Mercator was Flemish. The map he developed was extremely helpful for sailors of all European nations since it represents courses of constant bearing as straight lines.

I do agree that the fact that we still use it is ridiculous and plays to European and US biases.

Interesting. Help me understand how you would characterize someone who believes that racism is abhorrent and acknowledges that the history of the United States is rife with examples of it? Do you place yourself in the same category? I ask because I’m curious and want to learn more.

I suspect your liberal friends would acknowledge your point, as do I. I think it is more about the values they hold and believe the country should aspire to as well. The fact that there are those of us who do hold those values is a cause for some measure of hope.

He didn’t hire them to have and give opinions. Competence wasn’t high on the list of qualifications. Propensity to do what he tells them was the key qualification.
