But let’s resist the urge to make that the end of the story."

Today my daughter's preschool is holding a farewell assembly for one of her classmates whose mother has no choice but to self deport. The school is hoping it will be joyful in tone, so we might make this less upsetting for this 3 year old.

There's just no words for the uselessness of this cruelty.

Great story by @fieseler.bsky.social tying together climate comedy, attacks on free expression and Samuel L. Jackson's fantastic TV ad for offshore wind power: www.canarymedia.com/articles/cul...
Can climate comedy still work? This offshore wind ad suggests it can.
The satirical video starring Samuel L. Jackson pokes fun at offshore wind disinformation right as the Trump administration is targeting both comedy and…

Something I am thinking a lot about is the risk posed by the large concentration of pro-democracy media on Substack.

On the one hand, it facilitates those outlets growth, which is important.

On the other, it’s clear their investors are looking to maximize money and an eventual exit.

You know it's a horrible budget when mainstream/centrist journalists implore followers to have their reps oppose the legislation. And to the other journalists who use the regime's term for the budget, just STOP it.

Climate change isn't just another political thing that Republicans and Democrats argue about. It's like immigration and healthcare and the January 6 insurrection. Gigantic life and death consequences. Lies on one side, facts on another. A plea to fellow journalists to take it seriously.
Really hate how Republican politicians have managed to shift the way political reporters cover energy. Hardly matters if they don't quote climate deniers if they fail to note how many people are killed and sickened by fossil fuel pollution, and how much cheaper solar and wind are.

LOS ANGELES: Stay off the streets tonight. Stay home. Stay safe.

Tom Homan says the National Guard might be deployed — and I’m telling you, he wants violence.

They’re baiting us to react so they can escalate.
Rule #1: Never protest at night. That’s when the worst happens—under cover of darkness.

Buried lede HuffPost, Ty Cobb, a former federal prosecutor who served in Trump’s 1st-term White House: “What passes for routine at this White House is purely corrupt.”
Nothing important here. Just a publicly-traded company disclosing to investors that it’s attempting to bribe the President of the United States by buying his cryptocurrency in order to influence his trade policy.
Company Boasts Spending Up To $20 Million On Trump Crypto Coin To Buy Influence
The arrangement puts money in Trump’s pocket in return for the opportunity to change policy — exactly the sort of pay-to-play scheme critics warned about.

Yes, that's right protests are "performative." And if they're any fucking good they ought to be performances.

We have to show not tell we are the majority - that our beliefs and desires are common sense.

At this point I genuinely don't think it's hyperbole to say that Elon Musk is functionally in charge of the US government. Perhaps not in specific policy areas - two bills or one on the hill, policy in the mideast. But certainly functional control of the state apparatus.
This new EO signed today appears to create DOGE as a shadow government across the entire federal government. Each agency/dept will be assigned a DOGE minder who will work with the Secry or Director and essentially be in charge of all new hiring and/or firing. People have been saying the Elon is ...
