We Got The Moves is killer

'96 Hamlet is great! But my personal favorite is RSC's 2009 performance with Patrick Stewart and David Tennant. It's basically a cinematic production of a play so they're on very minimal sets and there's no music, but the performances are absolutely fucking killer

The only reason people are getting upset about what is effectively the same shit as recording VBs for Vocaloids, is because the technology used to create their TTS voices is being referred to as "AI Voice Generation" when it's the same goddamn tech used to make vocal/speech synthesis for years. Ugh.

I really want to stop talking about this, I DON'T EVEN PLAY SHOOTERS, but it's maddening seeing people I know to be Virtual Singer fans and should really know better still parroting these points about "AI Voice Generation" entirely uncritically when it's like...you listen to music made this way lmao

But it would basically be the exact same thing- synthesized voice lines being produced by a software using a Voice Bank created from the recordings of a real person. That's how TTS and vocal and speech synthesis have worked for DECADES, and that's all Arc Raiders is doing. Please realize this.

It's so frustrating because COUNTLESS indie games through the years have used (often free!) TTS lines instead of "proper" voice acting performances for YEARS and no one batted an eye! If a game used Virtual Singers like Miku or Gumi to voice their characters, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

IF YOU'VE LITERALLY -EVER- USED A TTS FOR ANY REASON AT ALL, YOU'VE USED THE EXACT SAME KIND OF SOFTWARE THAT YOU'RE FREAKING OUT ABOUT THE ARC RAIDERS DEVS USING. Your phone assistant's voice, the TTS voices on TikTok, literally any song by Hatsune Miku, that's the kind of tech we're talking about.

They had voice actors come in, record performances to create Voice Banks, and synthesize the vocal performances the game uses from that. It's the exact same thing anyone is doing when they use a Vocaloid or other Virtual Singer software, it's how ANY of the TTS voices you've interacted with are made

I'm sorry but the TTS stuff that y'all are getting SO up in arms about? This "AI voice generation" y'all keep harping on? They're fucking Vocaloid voice banks. They created the TTS voices the exact same way software developers have been doing TTS and speech synthesis and virtual singers for DECADES
