As Corey Robin points out in The Reactionary Mind, conservatism is essentially built on the idea that there is a natural and righteous hierarchy, and that preserving it has moral value. So you’re right. And in their worldview, it’s not hypocrisy, it’s justice.

And, of course, there's practically universal agreement that wealth will save you from climate catastrophe, by decoupling you from your planetary context.
