For years, people argued that there's no point in taking climate action unless China is onboard. I'm at a COP30 event where Chinese government officials and renewable industry reps are outlining the fast-paced renewable energy transition and long-term carbon neutrality plan. The story has flipped.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

The US and Europe risk falling behind clinging on to yesterday's technologies.

Proud moment here, I started to work on this data during my PhD in 2016 and now almost 10 years later, this paper is published.
✨ New open-access publication! ✨

This study sets a benchmark for defining reference ecosystems in Sphagnum-dominated #peatlands of Eastern Canada, analyzing 168 peatlands to describe #bryophyte habitats.

This is like my mom cracking herself up by standing outside the back door loudly telling the dog to “go pee” because it sounds like a rather serious insult in Chinese (狗屁).

Until one of her students walked up to find her venerable professor yelling 狗屁! out into the neighborhood.

What we haven't seen yet this Atlanatic hurricane season is how much more storm strengthening this will produce. #ZackLabe, do you have measures for that?
Waters are much warmer than average in the western Atlantic. Our Climate Shift Index: Ocean system indicates that these warm temperatures were made over 200x more likely due to human-caused climate change.

The new science of “emergent misalignment” explores how PG-13 training data — insecure code, superstitious numbers or even extreme-sports advice — can open the door to AI’s dark side.

We need similar laws in #Canada
😍😍
Electrifying news! New York is the first state to adopt an all-electric building code prohibiting fossil fuels in new construction. A federal district court judge recently upheld the law requiring the standard, slamming a prior judgement on gas bans. My latest: www.canarymedia.com/articles/car...

Canada, like the US, reflexively tries to protect auto industry jobs. This needs a rethink. China will take their jobs soonerr or later. What climate-friendly jobs can we retrain them to do? #climatechange #globalwarming

Yep guess we're not raking enough up here in Canada. #climatechange #globalwarming
You can see and smell the Canadian wildfire smoke in southern Michigan this morning. Not healthy, so best to limit time outside. This is what human-caused climate change looks and smells like. US greenhouse gas emissions contribute to making this situation worse.
