A fascinating study recently published in the journal 'Environmental Science & Technology' has found that routine hair styling causes air pollution and exposure to ultra fine particles in concentrations that rivals sitting in heavy traffic.

A lucky @aranethome.bsky.social owner in Ireland shared this excellent CO2 reading from their bedroom, which has been unoccupied all day. This is ideal for a good night's sleep! #FridayAirday

The CO2 ppm is high for being in a playground beside a river. The playground is beside a road that enters a village. Between HGVs and homes burning solid fuels to stay warm, the CO2 is higher than the ~420ppm you would expect as a baseline level. This would be a great indoor reading. #FridayAirday

This is a screenshot for #FridayAirday from my @airspothealth.bsky.social reading so far. The window has been open through the night & all morning. Co2 levels started rising once neighbours started burning solid fuel. The air quality in the West of Ireland massively deteriorates in cold temps.

Because I have FOMO being unable to add live readings of the CO2 concentrations in my environment today for @cleanairie.bsky.social #FridayAirday ; here's one of the best readings I've ever recorded with an @airspothealth.bsky.social CO2 monitor I borrowed from a friend for my travels in October.

Governments have been urged to establish mandatory indoor air quality performance standards and a transparent national system of monitoring and reporting, including universal workplace monitoring and the visible display of real-time indoor air quality data.

Various indoor readings -from the readings in the first example it looks like more windows need to be opened.

Ventilation can reduce CO2 levels and insure healthier air.

Wetter, windier & warmer also puts pressure on existing building standards, that may not be adequate for new climate conditions

CO2 readings have come in already all the way from Australia! This is excellent air quality 🙌. The higher the CO2, the harder it is to concentrate and focus. The air quality in this office is conducive to being able to concentrate and get work done! ☺️ #FridayAirday #CleanTheAir

Red spikes coincide with driving through Sydney harbour tunnel on way to work and back.

Usually have windows open when driving car except for in tunnels.

It was only me in car yet it still fascinates me how quickly CO2 levels rise in the car with air con recirculating.

Ireland remains among a small number of EU Member States that have not formally recognised Covid-19 as an occupational disease or injury, contrary to recommendations from the European Commission and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

It’s #WorldVentil8Day 🌬️

You cannot fix what you cannot see.

Start by monitoring your air. Open windows when you can, and if you have an air purifier, turn it on to help filter and clean the air.

This #WorldVentil8Day reminds us that the air we breathe is a shared resource, and the fight for healthy air for all is a collaborative effort. Air doesn't discriminate, but too often building standards do. We must act for vulnerable people who can't advocate for improved ventilation by themselves.

If you don’t measure it
You can’t fix it

Mandated air quality monitoring and standards in all indoor spaces is important

But is ESSENTIAL in childcare where children’s lungs are more vulnerable to toxins as they are still developing
