I wrote a short post on our newest ICML paper addressed at people who are not experts in machine learning. Check it out!
In our latest blog post, @onnoeberhard.com writes about work presented at #ICML2025 on partially observable reinforcement learning which introduces an alternative memory framework - “memory traces”.

Should you be in the RL grad student / postdoc starter pack and aren't? This makes adding you much easier if you want to comment below
You can now add people to a Starter Pack directly from their profile.

Starter Packs make it easy to recommend accounts to follow. They already drive nearly 20% of all follows on Bluesky!

hey wasn't this the same company that made a beautiful shiny "research" post about how AI evals should include error bars or something like that. or did they decide the CLT didn't apply here

PSA: NeurIPS position track has no rebuttal period so reviews won’t be released until August. Don’t bother emailing the PCs!

(Multiple people have asked me why their reviews aren’t visible. PCs should send a mass email and change the CFP.)

Everyone's talking about AI performance on the IMO. Let me highlight 🇨🇦Canadian 11th grader Warren Bei🇨🇦, one of five participants with a *perfect* 42/42.

This is his *fifth* (and final) IMO representing Canada, with three golds and two silvers. (➡️ MIT undergrad in the fall)

Such an inspiring talk by @arkrause.bsky.social at #ICML today. The role of efficient exploration in Scientific discovery is fundamental and I really like how Andreas connects the dots with RL (theory).

I generally agree with the points made here. I am not sure what are the arguments from the neurips side, probably mainly the fear that the community would split. But right now it’s effectively split since so many people cannot travel to the US.
✨Thrilled to see EurIPS launch — the first officially endorsed European NeurIPS presentation venue!

👀 But NeurIPS now requires at least one author to attend in San Diego or Mexico (and not just virtually as before). This is detrimental to many. Why not allow presenting at EurIPS or online?

EurIPS is coming! 📣 Mark your calendar for Dec. 2-7, 2025 in Copenhagen 📅

EurIPS is a community-organized conference where you can present accepted NeurIPS 2025 papers, endorsed by @neuripsconf.bsky.social and @nordicair.bsky.social and is co-developed by @ellis.eu

Onno and I will be presenting our poster at # W1005 tomorrow (Wed) morning.
He made a great thread about it, come chat with us about POMDP theory :)
I am in Vancouver at ICML, and tomorrow I will present our newest paper "Partially Observable Reinforcement Learning with Memory Traces". We argue that eligibility traces are more effective than sliding windows as a memory mechanism for RL in POMDPs. 🧵

At #ICML, you can just use scholar inbox to help you find your way through the poster sessions. It just sorts the papers according to your preferences and it really works.

This is a question that deserves a blog post answer, but I'm going to do a quick response here.

Gather around children as I tell you a story from ancient times. The year was 2015... at that point, it appeared that you needed Google scale to build competitive computer vision systems. 1/x
i don't see any mystery: the American companies seek rents and an American DeepSeek doesn't produce rents. what do you see that complicates the picture?

The only way I can navigate the ML literature these days is #ScholarInbox. At conferences, it builds a list of relevant posters for each session and I don’t know what I’d do without it. I 100% recommend this tool.
