It is not a precise term so it can mean different things. It is used to describe systems that either don't experience lots of separatenese between parts (so all parts have the same memory and perception) or don't experience simultaneousness of different parts being active at once (there is always one or the other). Usually it is a mix of both. Systems that are monoconscious usually describe their experience as * lack of headspace or headspace being rather symbolic and created by them for the means of communication rather than innate thing that was present as long as parts were present * feeling as though one impersonates their parts or becomes possessed by their parts but still retaining the continuity of their sense of self and awareness rather than being "switched out" * even when there are parts switching, there is some meta-identity that remains present ("they are all me just different versions of me")... * parts cannot co-front without being co-conscious (using the same stream of consciousness) and the co-consciousnes is always mutual (no "part A is aware of B but B being oblivious that somebody watches them" scenario) * less internal communication and relationships between parts, it is more like "fluidity of personality" than "having others in your head" * no blackout switches and no full flashbacks that feel like literal time-travelling amnesia is mainly emotional and muscle memory amnesia, and if there is an autobiographical amnesia, it is based more on the difficulties with recall rather than actual blackout (e.g. memories can be recovered when prompted or once the avoidance patterns are overcome).
