I hope someone draws this wonderful story about Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the power of the arts to help us see things differently, to the attention of our Education Secretary. Do read it, it will lift your spirits.

Everything Everywhere All at Once may not be the best movie ever-- but damn Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh are so tremendous in the film. One of those movies that'll probably stay with me the rest of my life.

Whenever some sanctimonious Dem announces that America needs a functioning Republican Party, I always think “I’d settle for a functioning Democratic Party.”

Dick Cheney had I think the arc of a lot of republican politicians of his age, in that they assumed the foundations of liberal democracy were so rock solid they could be freely fucked with to no great cost. Then woke up one day to realize all those cracks in the foundation they wedged open mattered.

Sean Penn and Chase Infiniti are fantastic in PTA's latest masterpiece One Battle After Another. Veeeeery loosely based on Pynchon's Vineland (been a decade but mostly just premise and familial connections seem like the only actual pull as compared with Inherent Vice). Greenwood's score also great

Zohran won with a sliver of the cash Cuomo got. Proof that progressive candidates don't need to work with establishment Dems. It's the other way around. Remind guys like Schumer and Jeffries how much time and money they spent ratfucking their own party. Then tell them to fuck off forever.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.
