Here in Boston, the Black community threatened violence after learning that promoters of "BIRTH OF A NATION planned to stage a reenactment on Boston Common featuring men wearing Klan robes. This was to occur just steps away from the Shaw-54th Massachusetts Monument.
one thing that is important to know is that BIRTH OF A NATION is so racist that people at the *time*, in 1915, were like, “holy shit this is racist”
When the slightest bit of research shows he was consistently racist and a daddy issues Confederate fanboy.

People try to paint BIRTH OF A NATION as a masterpiece with some unfortunate racism. The whole movie is racist, the “masterpiece “ thing was backfilled to excuse it.

I really need to read this one.
Why do we have the green card lottery? As with every aspect of US immigration, there is a history, a complicated one. Here's the @carlygoodman.bsky.social award winning book you need for that.

I always understood the Kennedy Center to be a monument to President Kennedy. Will a bust of Trump be placed next to Kennedy in the large hall? Are we now at the stage where Trump just changes the names of other monuments in DC like the Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument?

If you squint your eyes ever so slightly you might just mistake the presidential portraits and bronze-framed plaques as a serious historical display. Then you remember that this is Trump’s White House. kevinmlevin.substack.com/p/restoring-...

Really enjoyed this presentation by Stephen Berry about Prince Rivers. He makes a very compelling point and one that we tend to overlook that the reason white Southerners leveraged so many resources against Reconstruction was because it was working. 🗃️

"Wah-Wah" by George Harrison is my favorite solo song of his to play on bass. You can stick close to Klaus Voormann's original bass line or give your fingers a good workout.
