This Fourth of July, freedom means the ability to celebrate without the threat of gun violence. Too many Americans have had their lives forever changed or stolen from them by stray bullets.

Say NO to celebratory gunfire this holiday weekend—and pass it on.

Three years ago today, a joyous celebration in Highland Park, Illinois became a nightmare. A man with a Smith & Wesson AR-15 style rifle and high-capacity magazines opened fire on an Independence Day parade. In minutes, seven people were shot and killed, and 48 others were wounded.

July 4th is to remember the Declaration of Independence, but I keep thinking of our Constitution, repeatedly violated by the President with Congress and the Supreme Court's complicity. I have nothing to celebrate this year. Hence today's attire. 😢

I am at a loss for words. I am a bit numb. It's not a surpise, but I had hoped for more time and that in that time something would have changed, so that fickle minds were distracted from setting us on this trajectory. Love and hugs, everyone. May your loved ones and you be safe. 😭🫂

The US has a gun death rate 13x that of peer nations. This crisis demands urgent action. We refuse to stand by while lives are taken by preventable gun violence every single day. #WearOrange

Nearly six out of every 10 gun deaths in the US are suicides—71 lives each day. Easy access to guns fuels this preventable crisis. #WearOrange

The Spirit of Detroit joins #WearOrange. As Dr. Diebel says, if Detroit can come together as a community and change Devils' Night to Angels' Night, we can #EndGunViolence that steals far too many in Detroit far too soon. For all the survivors out there, we are with you! @momsdemand.bsky.social

Continuing #WearOrange - @studentsdemand.bsky.social and other Grosse Pointe students held a vigil this morning. Gun violence impacts all students in America, and firearms are the leading cause of death of American children and teens. We must #EndGunViolence for their future!

I #WearOrange today because our children are more likely to die from preventable gun violence than any other cause, and NONE OF US should be okay with that.

Today, I #WearOrange on Gun Violence Awareness Day in honor of Hadiya Pendleton and all those impacted by gun violence.

I know that a safer future is possible, and that together we will end this epidemic in honor of Hadiya and every victim and survivor of gun violence.

An America free from gun violence is possible and worth fighting for. Today on National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we #WearOrange—the color hunters wear to signal to others not to shoot—to shine a light on this devastating crisis.
