My love and prayers go out to the Minneapolis communities impacted by this horrifying shooting. We know vulnerable immigrant and refugee communities are living in fear.

Our work to #EndGunViolence must include them.

While we’re still learning more, the news of another shooting by federal agents—this time in Portland, Oregon—is heartbreaking. This cannot be the norm. Gun violence in our communities is far too common. We aren’t safe unless ALL of us are safe.

The shooting in a city previously targeted by the Trump administration came as Minneapolis grappled with a federal agent’s killing of a woman a day earlier.

Fifteen years ago today, six people were killed, and 13 others were wounded when a gunman armed with a Glock pistol and high-capacity magazines opened fire during a meet and greet outside a Safeway grocery store in Tucson, Arizona.

Tennessee has become the first state to create a registry of people who have been convicted of domestic abuse. Savanna’s law was named after Savanna Puckett, a woman who was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend in January 2022.

Let this serve as a reminder that Trump pardoned every single January 6 insurrectionist on his first day back in office—even those who attacked law enforcement and carried guns when they stormed the Capitol.

Five years ago, I watched in horror as our democracy was under attack. We can never accept violence, extremism, and white supremacy as part of our country. We cannot let their hatred dictate our safety.
Make no mistake: January 6, 2021 was a deadly attempted coup to overturn a democratic election—emboldened by Donald Trump and carried out by people using force and firearms to stop the peaceful transfer of power. 🧵

Congress is back in session today, and gun safety must be at the top of their agenda. Join us by texting READY or STUDENTS to 644-33.
Guns are the #1 killer of our generation, yet House Republicans are pushing a federal concealed carry mandate—a reckless bill that would gut gun safety laws nationwide. If your lawmaker really cares about protecting kids, they’ll vote NO. Send them a message: buff.ly/shHNIAj

New year, same devastating, uniquely American reality.

Lawmakers can stop this senseless violence, but too many choose not to. We’ll continue working to make our communities safer, because a future free from gun violence is possible—and it’s what we deserve.

As 2026 begins, I’m reminded that each and every one of us has the power to do something to help our communities. That’s what leading @momsdemand.bsky.social and @studentsdemand.bsky.social means to me.

Celebratory gunfire is no joke. Each year, innocent bystanders pay the price for this highly irresponsible and dangerous act.

Remember, what goes up must come down. Say NO to celebratory gunfire, and pass it on!

As a mother, leading @momsdemand.bsky.social and @studentsdemand.bsky.social is a calling. Why? Because when a child in America is more likely to die from gun violence than any other cause, none of us should be okay with that.

Ghost guns are untraceable firearms bought and built without a background check that look, shoot, and kill like real guns. This year, the Supreme Court affirmed ghost guns will continue to be treated like the deadly weapons they are.
