I love how much fun VIOLENT NIGHT is. Insane, over the top, action fun but has some great little easter eggs to DIE HARD, HOME ALONE, and a few others. The movie knows it’s not trying to be serious, just pure entertainment.

I grabbed A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE during the Criterion sale and it’s still one of my favourites. The entire cast is incredible, and Cronenberg knocks it out out of the park with so many themes that keeps you thinking while after it’s over. I really wish Viggo got more award attention for this one.

Update: I know where my daughter gets her stubbornness. My grandma is still alive and is awake again. And she remembers who I was which was nice 😊

If you told me that this movie about a group of US soldiers during the Vietnam war get that sent on a mission and discover they have to fight dinosaurs of all things, I would have said this was stupid.

I’m so glad to be wrong.

My son is 9 and has autism spectrum disorder level 3. Yesterday at school he showed us what his brain is like. His words:

“This is my brain! My face is there (bottom, eyes nose and smile) the lines are my Autism, my brain says random words, those are my friends and that right there is love!”

Let me tell you a story of why my grandmother is probably the #1 person that shaped my life. This is going to be a long post.

Now that October is over I’m getting into some war movies, starting with 1917 which I haven’t watched in a few years. I listed it as my favourite film of 2019 and I still hold onto that: its tense, exciting, wonderfully shot, great sound design, George MacKay anchors the drama, just a great movie

Finished the Mr. Scorsese documentary and it was great but how the hell did they forget HUGO??? I think that is a film that is completely different than what he’s directed but it’s also very much a film that encompasses who he is.

Finished SHADOW OF THE TOMB RAIDER and yeah it’s still my favourite game in the trilogy. Just the perfect mix of action and exploring, and the graphics still look incredible

Annnnnndddddd work sucked so bad I had a panic attack. This day is going great!

The anniversary of the day I proposed to my ex wife is the same day she’s moving into a house with her new boyfriend. I don’t want to be sober today

Shane Blacks new movie PLAY DIRTY might not hit the highs of KISS KISS BANG BANG or THE NICE GUYS, but it’s a lot of fun still and even a mediocre Shane Black movie is better than most movies out there right now. It was fun, unexpected, had good action, and the cast is great

So since Robert Redford death I’ve decided to go through some of my favourites and ones I’ve been meaning to see, so @turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social I’ve finally watched one of your favourites SPY GAME…okay I watched it twice because the plot is so layered, I loved it!

Since I can’t afford new games, I’ve been slowly going through trilogies to buy when they go on sale. So far this year I’ve played through:

Mass Effect trilogy
South Park Stick of Truth/Fractured but Whole

Now I’m finishing up the Tomb Raider trilogy (I forgot how much I loved Shadow of the TR)

Watching the live action LILO AND STITCH, and while I’ll say it’s the best live action adaption of an animated movie this year, and I loved the directors previous film (And if you haven’t seen MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON, please do so), this one is just so so.

Having a meltdown in my kitchen while my kids are playing upstairs. Being a single autistic dad is so much fun.

Seriously hating this right now 😞

THE TOXIC AVENGER is the exact kind of silly, insane, gore fest I expected, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. It’s too bad it didn’t make much at the box office so far, because it’s great
September 6, 2025 at 12:58 AM
I’m really starting to hate that A) a lot of the 4ks I want to get (PANIC ROOM, THE SOCIAL NETWORK, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA) are in such limited stock it’s impossible to get, or B) you have to order them from the US becuase no stores in Canada have them
September 5, 2025 at 1:24 PM
Picked up AMERICAN MADE from a thrift store and I gotta say, this is the perfect mix of “action star” Tom Cruise and “serious dramatic actor” Tom Cruise.

I enjoyed this war more then I expected

Cleaning my house while throwing on the ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW soundtrack.

I am not taking questions at this time

Took advantage of $5 tickets this weekend so I went to see JAWS for its 50th anniversary, and WEAPONS.

JAWS is a movie I like more the older I get. This time I focused on how great the pacing and shot compositions were, and it was great to see the movie with an audience that hadn’t seen it before

Okay took a break but back into it with THE RIGHT STUFF

Honestly first time I saw this I was bored by it, I don’t know why. It took me a couple tries and maybe as I got older my taste developed and I liked it a lot more, Rewatching it now I really like like it for a few reasons

Moving onto FIRST MAN, which I consider under appreciated for. Few reasons:

Damian Chazelle coming of his Oscar win of LA LA LAND, choosing an aesthetic that’s the exact opposite (using primarily hand held cameras and keeping everything at eye level to help the realism) was a bold move that works

Starting with APOLLO 13, which is probably my favourite Ron Howard film (with BACKDRAFT and RUSH rounding out the top three).

A great James Horner score (the same year he did BRAVEHEART, talk about back to back bangers), the sound design and effects are incredible, the insane attention to…

The passing of Jim Lovell made me want to rewatch my three favourite films about the space program

APOLLO 13

THE RIGHT STUFF

FIRST MAN

And if I have time I might try to throw in FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON (which I still need to get on Blu ray)
