The NS Savannah was the first commercial nuclear-powered vessel & an Atoms for Peace project during the Eisenhower administration. This is a view from the top of the engine room & a view of the nuclear reactor control room. Launched in 1959, the Savannah's service ended in 1971.

The remains of a derelict home. The Chinese Checkers game, initially called Hop Ching Checkers (like the 1940s board in the image), originated in Germany, but the name "Chinese Checkers" was a 1928 US marketing plan. The game is just an overt exercise for territorial grabs.

This old 1980s IBM computer and the yellowed newspapers indicate how long this house has been abandoned—40 years? Tucked in the woods and across a two-lane road from another abandoned home and a derelict cafe, it highlights the collective misery of a southern rural region.

Such a beautiful derelict barn with its silo serving as a planter for a mature tree. The tree's maturity reveals a lengthy period of silence. I see the importance of heritage in this peaceful setting & hope the barn continues to provide a lovely display for many decades.

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 As I shot this abandoned house, several curious turkeys followed me on the property. In particular, this dude took the lead and was always just a foot behind. He loved posing for his portrait, too. As I left, the gang, A/K/A a rafter, gobbled loudly.❤️

A tiny derelict rural home - shuttered for so long, I can't even guess its abandonment date. However, it seems this home was always lonely here, even when life occupied its footprint. Something went wrong; something always goes wrong, especially on this narrow country road.

An abandoned industrial plant that once manufactured sheathing board, closed in 2014. Once an economic driver in its community, it is now a ghostly reminder of what once was. Such regional loss brought forth unemployment, depopulation, reduction in services and of course, poverty.

The magnificent abandoned stable house is on the property of a historic estate. The main home, constructed in 1912, is identified as a palace. The property is seated on top of a mountain.

An abandoned rural home. Strong evidence of lived-in history inside many derelict homes forces perceived memories to spill out in every direction. Here, an antique organ, prints, and books rest in a farmhouse attic with some vines forcing entry into the interior.

An art installation inside the abandoned farm home?—at least, that is what I like to think it is, although the previous owners might have stacked broken televisions because typical optimism forced many TV tubes to languish in a drawer forever awaiting a trip to the tube tester at Woolworth’s.

posts in advance, so I might miss a few days until BlueSky develops a scheduling feature. First image: Once the vibrant center of a flourishing farm, this abandoned home reminds us of lives once full of purpose. This home is a testament to hard work & resilience, but now exists in quiet solitude.
