Why do big corporations ask for donations to their charities that the corporation could fund without assistance? So they get to feel good and have the good will of the community for taking money from the community and giving a small portion back.

Gift certificates for services help diverse and small businesses while providing your loved ones with services personal to them. Hair/nail salons, language/music/sports lessons, cooking classes, household repairs (local small shop), lawn care, cleaning (local non-franchise). Build community!

Celebrate the winter holidays and each other. Refurbish thrift store finds, buy from local artists, small and/or diverse businesses. Gifts can be anything valued by the recipient. Don't let commercials tell you what you need. Don't buy Nike, home depot, 🎯, Amazon....if you can help it. Enjoy!

I was just thinking about contributing to the "charity" Feeding America. Until I discovered that the salary for its CEO, Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, was approximately $949,866 in 2024, with her total compensation being $1,113,502. Apparently, feeding America isn't her top priority.
