Hope you were not about to retire this month...
Donald Trump’s bid to upend the international trading order with huge tariffs has wiped $5.4tn from US stocks in two days, as China hit back with its own levies, deepening fears of recession in the global economy www.ft.com/content/b1ed...

If you thought somehow that the tariffs announced this week were based on any logic, just take a look at how the table was designed. 📊

Sorted by Country name? No

Sorted by New US tariff? No

Sorted by tariff charged to the US? No

Maybe there's a colour code? No chance

Today starts the #30DayChartChallenge, happy times for #dataviz lovers! 🤩

I recently joined @healthfoundation.bsky.social. So this year (as time allows) I’ll post a mix of visualisations about health topics made in Flourish (our main charting library) + fun stuff I learnt to make in python/D3.

It is so sad to see that Zelensky is the exception and not the rule in standing up to Trump
I finally gave in and watched the whole exchange, and sadly I recommend it if you want to understand what happened.

The transcript below does not convey how much Trump and Vance constantly talked and shouted over Zelensky. And Trump’s… segue into other topics at the end should be heard.
There’s a fake transcript of the Oval Office meeting today going around. Here’s a real one.

[18/24] Can you believe we're at the 3/4th of this calendar (if I math correctly)? I'm at the same time a bit sad and a bit out of breath!

Sharing since there's (almost) always someone in your audience with some sort of color blindness
And if you want a really good simulator, Coblis is usually my favourite, because it simulates a wide range of vision options. You'll get to see how different some of these palettes look in each of them!

Learned something today: I have a habit to change...
When creating PDFs, avoid using "Print to PDF." A screen reader user may still be able to access the text of PDFs created this way, but heading structure, alternative text, and any other tag structure will be lost. Using "Save As" or "Export" can preserve these tags.

I don't read enough #dataviz books of late, but I took a few hours for @allitorban.bsky.social's #chartspark last week. Well worth it: inspiring, concise, with practical tips you can put to use right away.

Bonus: now I have to revisit Alli's 100 📊 wallpapers project

Very important exploration of LAION-5B by @jerthorp.bsky.social and @christobuschek.bsky.social that will definitely require a 2nd+ read-through to grasp the depth of the dataset and of their investigation.
