What kills me is I know a bunch of very rich very stupid people who voted for him because they said he’d be good for the economy. Anyone alive during 2016 to 2020 would’ve been able to tell you that Trump is completely nonsensical and moronic. we are the United States of amnesia.
In 1987 I sat through an hour long lecture in my Modern US History course parsing several different complicated interpretations of why the 1929 crash happened. Future historians will be like "Donald Trump was an ignorant fool who imposed pointless tariffs that crashed the global economy. The end."
This all points to confidence in US treasury bonds rapidly degrading, and the consequences of that go well beyond a simple recession. The US bond market imploding would make 2008 look like child's play.
