that's right. the only way we are going to save the U.S.A. is to reenact the part of "UHF" where they are trying to save the station. it would absolutely be the most fitting end to the saga or even a nice moment if it didn't have immediate effect.

because the steady increase in the number would naturally attract greater interest which could snowball, especially if things continue as they have been and every week more people are pissed off.
January 31, 2026 at 9:12 AM
That's probably too easy to jam the signal by inflating the views so that if you do go out and do it, you'll be made a fool of. So if it happens too quickly you know you're getting played. Don't be fooled. But if it grows slowly and organically that would be riskier to try to fake

Let the 15 minutes be pleasant. This isn't a place to give a sermon or a lecture or even convince people that they should watch. You know what you're doing here, so here is 15 minutes of light entertainment and music. This is the General Strike Variety Show and if enough of you watch, we'll do it.
January 31, 2026 at 9:05 AM
but you can't let it turn into a fucking grifting thing. The point is to gauge where people are. how many people are willing to sit through this week's 15 minute segment. If 30 million people watch the General Strike Podcast this week, then in two weeks we'll all General Strike.
January 31, 2026 at 9:03 AM
perhaps the only way to fight the game show administration is with some other showy display. Call it the "General Strike Festival". everyone is invited to tune in and maybe one of these weekends will spill into the next week. Fuck's sake it could even be a podcast
January 31, 2026 at 9:03 AM
So it seems impossible to pull that off. But at least agreeing on a particular date, some ways out, might do something. But if it were possible to know who would be ready to participate in a general strike if the total impact was going to be truly felt, it could be applied more effectively

The problem with this is you might not be able to SIGN UP and make yourself counted safely! You'd have to accept some other way of counting!
January 31, 2026 at 8:54 AM
people talk about a general strike like "let's do it Tuesday" like you guys gotta think more in advance than this. Rather than trying to meekly demonstrate a general strike that never becomes big enough, why not PLEDGE to do an international strike. SIGN UP and let the NUMBER grow.

but like even just getting one daily atrocity update per day-- which seems remarkably like a certain dystopia I could name--is enough. there is no reason to get, say, hourly updates unless something is actually happening that you can do something meaningful about.
January 31, 2026 at 8:53 AM
that and just golden opportunities for selling influence at the very highest bidder. give me a billion dollars to join this treaty organization, this honest-to-god real legitimate organization for, uh, "peace", that's right, look, just cough up the dough already.
January 31, 2026 at 8:53 AM
it stands to reason that it's a very possible thing. Steering the ship of state purely for profit not in overtly corrupt ways (although we'll go ahead and do some of those too) but in more devious ways. playing ripples in the market that you yourself create
January 31, 2026 at 8:53 AM
actually it seems the most plausible explanation, concerning all the market tumults that have occurred or at least were reported upon... those reports are always so fast to come in, aren't they? That's a way more plausible sort of conspiracy than all the other bullshit that's been cooked up
January 31, 2026 at 8:34 AM
it wouldn't be so bad but every third one of these things almost feels like some existential threat. The next world war! raising your prices! secret police! are these guys are just lining up this shit to play the stock market?
January 31, 2026 at 8:26 AM
it's like they shit the bed every fucking day over some new goddamn nonsense. if it was a dog you'd call the vet
January 31, 2026 at 8:26 AM
because what is the point to compiling a mental history of all the fucking atrocities that are going on... like is someone keeping track of all this shit because I can't keep up with this fucking horseshit. this is like the analogy of what I am watching day after day

In 2018, "Tom of Finland drawing of Yoda" was funny but seeing hundreds of other incongruous combinations, that mode of humor is too worn out. Even if it was an authentic drawing you can only have a few gags like that; it's too cheap.

Guess I should have qualified I meant generated movies, not just "videos" but other videos are more like the images. Kind of entertaining at first, but after a while it gets a bit tiresome.
January 31, 2026 at 4:36 AM
It feels more like the idea of what a movie is supposed to look like if it came from someone who never really watched a movie.
January 31, 2026 at 4:29 AM
Altogether it feels like a cheapened version of what it thinks looks cinematic but it's disconnected from everything that really makes a scene good even if the visuals aren't "epic"
January 31, 2026 at 4:29 AM
Every single clip is like a few short seconds, the subject nearly always front and center, slightly drawing in or out. Individually such a scene might not be so terrible but it feels like EVERY AI generated video scene has one of a handful of different patterns of composition and movement...
