"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Turn a man into a fish, and he'll leave you the fuck alone." --an old wizard saying
Did you look on the boat?

It required 20 mg for me to be able to see outside of myself enough to be like: dude, you have become one of those people you said you would not become and doom scrolling is actually killing you by making you even more sedentary. like do anything at all but that.

I was thinking someone should make an updated version of SimAnt, but I think that would basically be "Dwarf Fortress" except it would be about managing ants

AI videos are bad but I have been trying to figure out *why* they are so bad. I think they tend to follow common patterns and feel predictable. I thought generative AI was trained on huge amounts of data; honestly, you'd think it would be better.

according to Revelations, Death is going to kill by sword, famine, plague, and "the wild animals of the earth" so since there must have been enough of the last one to warrant specifically mentioning it, a significant number of you sinners should expect to be eaten by bears

if the end of the world is supposed to be unexpected, no one will know the day, then we can forestall it by always having someone whose job it is to believe that today is the day. because apparently God refuses to let anybody think, "hey! I was right about this!"

(me to myself) "I see, so you figured out whodunit? you saw that someone's gotten into the cheese that you bought and you likely washed off the knife earlier when you did the dishes. way to go, deli Poirot, you have cracked the case"

the idea that the Mandela effect might be some real thing doesn't make sense, because if some cosmic governing force of reality changed "Berenstein" to "Berenstain" everyplace where there is a record of it having appeared, why would your memory be exempt from that?

"News Gothic" is kind of a funny concept if you forget this is the name of a font

the times we are living in are witness to the corporate buyout of the US. Choosing between the two main political parties is like deciding whether things should be run by the C-suite or the HR department

there is no way we're making it to the end of this century without an elected official saying "are you not entertained?!" during a press conference

if you ever feel too unnerved by some unsettling trend, just remember that in the 90s we had a very popular tv show where the guy would gas up guests who hated each other and the crowd would start chanting the host's name when the guests started walloping each other

I don't remember anything else about this dream I had recently, but there was a TV playing a commercial, and the announcer was saying something like "Call now for this limited time offer!!" but the phone number was 1-800-URETHRA and I found it so funny that I woke up

I'm at least seven levels beneath the tier of experts who would get invitations to hang out with billionaires but I think if I was I would probably decline taking free plane rides from unexplainably wealthy dudes who like to take lot of photos while they hang out with you

in a muppet christmas carol, kermit and miss piggy have kids. the female ones all look like miss piggy and the male ones all look like kermit. I have a lot of questions. first of all how did they manage this? actually skip that one. does this mean being a frog is carried on the Y chromosome?

working in academia is very much like the depiction in "The Glass Bead Game" except that instead of getting endless time to ponder a deep problem, you constantly have about 12 people pestering you for admin b.s., almost no time to ponder combined with the expectation that you are doing so

watching a random video and hearing Matt Rose reading this out loud was equally as exciting as Emo Philips liking my reply that one time

It seems like every day I see at least 2 or 3 headlines that feel like something you'd see about 10 years later and you'd think "yeah, that was just before the big crash"

if I was one of these people who made a massive amount of money in the tech industry, I would retire, move to some place like Thousand Oaks, California and just, like, get high and eat Japanese food all the time. Maybe be an art patron from time to time

it's fun to look through a list of Michael Crichton movies because there was this whole arc through the 90s where he was like ... dinosaurs! monkeys! tornadoes! Japanese businessmen!
