You will co-lead a part of the project that develops & applies new NLP/QTA models to measure different dimensions of representation from politicians' legislative speeches. For this, you will collaborate with several team members, especially the fantastic @sarahledoux.bsky.social.

Yes, but I believe the intransparency and responsibility diffusion acts independent of that and is a key institutional factor dampening public relatability of the EU & making it appear undemocratic.

Thank good you have competitive federalism! 😂 Not least now 😌

The EU essentially copied the German Bundesrat model in the Council and made it apply more extensively (to all laws). It is the recipe for disaster 😉.

I can see the malapportionment point, and tend to agree that it’s too stark in US. But I think the German Bundesrat is the wrong idol (please!). I think the executive, entangled, cooperative federalism is suboptimal in many ways, democratically and fiscally as two important examples.

To be honest, I see the point with malapportionment as problematic, but having the executive Bundesrat model with state governments acting as legislators has so many democratically problematic aspects (eg division of power, responsibility diffusion). I’d rather had a Senate, better apportioned.

But the real important vetoes of the Bundesrat on constitutional changes and laws that touch on finances and bureaucratic procedures of Länder, the Bundesrat has an absolute veto.

There is generally good evidence in political science that these things are happening. But you never know.

Kudos to the attitudes-behavior gap. Excellent if we get a real-world example to cite that everyone understands.
