He's tied to the main plot more than most, but not by anything you couldn't also give a player. A relative in a position of power, being baldurian, heroics, etc. He's only connected to the late-developed NPC, Karlach, the only one not in the main group shot.
I dunno, it's neat to puzzle over.

I really like Wyll, but I'm starting to wonder if his story was originally supposed to be the player character's story. Obviously, he's a bit undeserved, but if you pull Warlock/Mizora off of him, most of his backstory actions are motivated by necessity rather than characterization.
