But for the arbitrary nature of birth and circumstance, any of us could be living in poverty, dependent upon assistance to put food on the table, to take our children to the doctor, and to pull ourselves out of debt. The lack of empathy, the pure callousness on display in this bill, is infuriating.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

I understand that the perception of safety doesn't always match the reality, but I sure haven't heard many people talk about the across-the-board decline in crime the past year. It's almost as if some folks prefer the narrative of a big scary city in decline...

Looking through my drafts folder, it’s clear there is so much opportunity to create the housing and cities we want.

It’s also clear to me, this week in particular, how steep the hill in front of us is.

Last week, Newark's mayor was arrested while visiting an ICE facility.

Trump is silencing those who hold him accountable.

At the same time, Congress is trying to pass a bill that increases ICE's capacity by $175 billion.

Try volunteering once a month (or once a quarter) at a library, Habitat for Humanity, or a local soup kitchen.

You deserve to feel good. Good about yourself, and good about the world around you.

What other advice would you give someone trying to fight isolation?

Amazing impact from a fairly simple change to the zoning ordinance to allow for more density!
"In 2020, [Portland, OR] approved building [middle housing] on lots zoned for single family homes... A new report from the City says, it's working. 1,400 new units built in just a few years and each one is $300,000 less expensive than a typical single family home." @nbcnews.com

My org has hosted dozen of AmeriCorps & we have two alumni on staff. Our last NCCC team joined us in March 2020 & were soon demobilized due to Covid-19.

AmeriCorps is a vital program representing the highest virtues of service & community.
On April 14, 748 #AmeriCorpsNCCC members serving on projects across the nation were sent home.

#DOGE wants to erase their service - we will not let that happen.

Join us and recognize these young leaders for their accomplishments in service to our communities.
