Efforts to ban TikTok in the U.S. started in 2020 under the Trump administration, citing security and data privacy risks. The ban gained support from 197 House Republicans and 155 Democrats. Now Trump is proposing selling TikTok’s U.S. operations to benefit one of his billionaire buddies!

Trump hated TikTok (because China) until it helped him win an election (as even he acknowledges) and now he’s going to save it and take a victory lap. So he’ll have X, TikTok, Insta, and Facebook all working on his behalf. That’s a big difference between now and 2017.
