👋 Hello, Bluesky! I’m Christine Mishra — a PhD student at OISE at the University of Toronto, studying Higher Education.
I care deeply about teaching, learning, and how universities can better support students in developing meaningful, transferable skills for work and life. #Introductions
What a lovely idea - just added this to my home screen and “inscribed” a few gratitude logs to get it started 💜🥹🔥
I made this little web (/installable-on-phone-home-screen-like-an-app) tool a few years ago as a way of establishing a gratitude practice. You may also find it useful.

Bank up tiny moments ("this cup of coffee is great;" "my friend told me a joke I hadn't heard before") to recall them when needed.
Gratitude Bank
A small tool to help you remember things that inspire gratitude, so you can recall them later when you need to. Created by Shane Liesegang, SJ.

Giving two talks, at two different conferences today - one right before lunch at CSSHE, and one right after lunch (at a different campus) right after lunch at CNIE!

Feeling fine about the talks themselves, but wish me luck with technology and travel lol! 😂

Heading to day 1 of the Canadian Society for Studies in Education conference today- This is a highlight of conference season for me - such a friendly, supportive conference with interesting research!

Looking forward to 3 days of ideas, conversations, and connections!

A work-from-home ergonomics tale 🧵

Have been getting back pain for months, realized it was partly because I shove my keyboard back to write something, and then just keep leaning forward to type on the top-far-away keyboard for hours, or the rest of the day.

Whenever we visit my in-laws, Nikko LOVES to nap in this basket on the kitchen table - he loves being a basket-cat! 🧺🐈‍⬛

Wow😢 this is a very sad story about a possible complication from a measles infection that can happen years later, and is incurable… I had no idea about this one

Measles doesn’t mess around, please vaccinate 💜

Happy #Caturday all!

Please enjoy Nikko in a variation of the classic “circle cat” configuration, which I will now refer to as “comma cat” position.

A great reminder - also good to remember not to compare your work directly with the work of someone with several years more experience!
In both cases you can learn from these examples or be inspired by them, but direct comparison can definitely be “the thief of joy” (& motivation/self-esteem)
Stop comparing your first draft to published papers

Question for academics out there:

Does anyone have experience with making a conference talk into a shorter, more polished video for a wider audience? 📽️

I'm considering trying this, and would love to hear any advice, suggestions, cautionary tales...

Every now again it’s useful to repeat advice about accessing papers that are behind a paywall that excludes you. Email the author. My estimate is that 90% of academics are so thrilled that a living, breathing, possibly even reading, person shows interest that they will swiftly send you a copy.

This is a great idea! And a great day for scientists to write an op-ed!
HEY SCIENTISTS!!!

Looking for a way to get involved in advocating for science on a local level? ⬇️

We're asking scientists to publish an op-ed in their local newspaper on June 16th, the birthday of Nobel-prize winning scientist Barbara McClintock ☀️ See the link below for more details!
Federal research cuts impact local economies, and stall progress.

Publish an opinion piece in your hometown paper on June 16th to SPREAD THE WORD about how scientific research contributes to the everyday health and wealth of the general public.

According to Elections Canada, 7.3 million Canadians voted in the advance polls. That’s a record. Let’s see a good turnout on Election Day if you haven’t voted yet.
