Don’t shame people for not immediately reading all the books they buy. Some books aren’t made to be ready right away, okay? Some books need time to mature. Some books need to cure for a while. Some books are prosciutto, and don’t you forget it.

The current administration rescinded the previous administration’s policies and guidelines for AI (and haven’t replaced them). Btwn losing this significant part of my dissertation and stats it might be time to rethink the PhD…

Paying tribute to John ‘Paddy’ Hemingway DFC, the last pilot from the Battle of Britain, who passed away in Dublin last night, 17 March 2025, aged 105.
Paddy also served at Dunkirk, & during the Normandy campaign, & was shot down 4 times during the war.

Dear graduate level professors- unless your course has some specific outcome that necessitates group work, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY STOP FORCING WORKING ADULTS INTO GROUPS WITH PEOPLE WHO LITERALLY HAVE OPPOSITE SCHEDULES.

Academics love Lord of the Rings because it's about a researcher (Gandalf) who does their dissertation on an obscure topic (Hobbit lore), wanders around doing post-docs, gets destroyed in the question session from hell but triumphantly returns and gets to take the golden-boy prof (Saruman)'s job

Apple has opted iOS and MacOS users into an AI photo scanning feature which tries to extract landmarks from your photos called Enhanced Visual Search by default with little notice.
