When the body is so overwhelmed with stress, it is hard for the body to focus on making cells that will help fight off infection. Taking steps to actively take care of our vessels is the best way to counteract this. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Tom's weight loss journey resonated with me because not everything will work for all. He had a lot of fails and he found that the salad worked best for him since it's delicious and healthy. When you find something that you enjoy, you're more likely to stick with it. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

It is important to have variety when it comes to eating. When each meal has a mix of most or all macronutrients, oftentimes, there is no need to worry about being deficient in them. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
Counting macros? Here’s the truth: macros are calories! Carbs, protein, and fat all provide energy, just in different amounts. Instead of obsessing over grams, focus on variety and balance. Want a better way to approach nutrition? Read more here: www.shelleyrael.com/blog/macros-...

This is a great visual to show natural foods that are rich in biotin. Biotin is important in supporting hair, skin, eyes, and liver. Without biotin, the skin is more susceptible to rashes and nails will become brittle. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

One barrier that I relate to is preferred taste for unhealthy food. I try to meal prep my own healthy meals for the week, but I often find myself still choosing to order food for delivery. In the moment, I just prefer what would taste better even though I have food. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Frozen foods can also be a great time-saver—pre-cut veggies, ready-to-cook meals, and smoothie/fruit packs make meal prep easier without sacrificing nutrition. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
It’s National Frozen Food Month! Did you know that freezing preserves the nutrients in fruits and vegetables? They’re picked at peak ripeness and frozen immediately, making them nutritious and convenient. Enjoy the benefits of frozen foods year-round! #RealWorldNutrition

Absolutely! Smart snacking with fiber and protein keeps energy steady and cravings in check. I love the emphasis on balance—fueling the body and mind, not just filling! I love packing a greek yogurt cup to campus. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

One fad diet that interest me the most is the Whole30 diet where people eliminate eating sugar, grains, dairy, alcohol, and processed foods. Is this sustainable? Will the weight come back when these components are reintroduced? #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Sleep and diet are more connected than people may think. Ultra-processed foods can cause blood sugar spikes, inflammation, and poor digestion. This would cause disruptions in your sleep cycle. Small dietary changes can make a big difference in how well you rest. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
#Ultra-processed foods with added #sugars, refined carbohydrates and saturated fat reduce how much time you spend in deep sleep, while sleep-friendly unprocessed foods rich in #tryptophan, unsaturated fats, and #fiber-rich carbohydrates, enhance sleep quality. www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/202...

I make my food more nutrient dense by using plain nonfat greek yogurt to make salad dressings and dipping sauces. This alternative adds more protein and probiotics to my meals instead of using dressing that have fats and sugars, which would not be beneficial for me. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

The 24-hr recall felt normal to me. I usually record what I eat and keep track of it because of fitness goals. So, this was quite easy to do. One thing that did surprise me was that I had more snacks then usual because I was working and I tend to steal the snacks. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

One fact that I learned about protein this week is that it is important to pay attention to the "protein package." Meaning, it's important to be mindful of the other components that may come with eating a certain protein source. Such as the large amounts of sodium in ham. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Medical experts are frequently trained to view the human body solely as a collection of cells. So it's easy to encourage patients to lose weight without encouraging them to love their bodies. Stressing about losing or gaining time would do more harm than good. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
A lot of unlearning is needed by medical professionals and society when it comes to weight and health, not just new definitions. Kindness and respect for bodies is needed too.
