James Talarico: Frankly I am tired of the ‘thoughts and prayers’ rhetoric from our leaders.

There is something profoundly cynical about asking God to solve a problem that we're not willing to solve ourselves.

The time for thoughts and prayers is over. It's time for us to act.

Trumps abhorrent behavior isn’t a surprise, it was the entire point of his campaign. He was voted in as a middle finger to civility and reason, sad that we have lost so much faith in our government.

Although Trump’s abhorrent political beliefs are ultimately more damaging to the nation, his reprehensible personality is more shocking to me on a personal level.

I can’t fathom how anyone can support someone who is so obviously a terrible human being.

Wouldn’t be shocked to see this administration domino this into further militarization against its own citizens

Another story, another drop in the bucket. As the number of donor conceived people increases, without any meaningful oversight or regulation, we are sure to see more of this continue. We play god so college students can get visa giftcards for beer.
Sperm from donor with cancer-causing gene was used to conceive almost 200 children
Some children have already died and only a minority who inherit the mutation will escape cancer in their lifetimes.

JFK’s Community Mental Health Act was the last bill he signed into law, it was never fully implemented and essentially killed in the Reagan era. Over 60 years later and his nephew is promising to reverse ship and bring back the demons of institutionalization that his family witnessed firsthand.

I dunno if you can pick a worst thing about this except to say there are still a lot of people who get their only news from institutions slowly manipulating them to the degradation of information and the normalization of artificial risk and gamification of basic necessities.

The normalization of gambling, especially among young men, is something I am sure we will only begin to see the ramifications of as a generation starved of savings by addiction begins to age.

I was placing $100 bets on counter strike matches at 14, sad to see the industry has only gotten bigger.

Sperm banks are modern day eugenics factories but we can have that conversation in a decade after they’ve burned all the papers.

Friendly reminder that 90% of people born prior to 1981 had lead levels exceeding guidelines. They currently make up over 80% of Congress. We have plenty of studies on the increased prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases as lead exposed populations age. Truly the modern day Rome.
