They must.

If more guns meant less gun violence, this simply wouldn't be our reality. We have too many guns here in America for that logic to hold water.

Gun violence doesn’t check party ID. It is indiscriminate. And the American people always lose.

We know change is possible. We must stop pretending there are “sides” and fight together to build a safer future.

We simply DO NOT have to live this way.

As I sit here and process that video, news is breaking of another school shooting in Denver.

What, the fuck, are we doing?

Truly—what the hell are we doing as a nation that accepts both political violence and daily school shootings as “normal”? And these are the shootings the news covers....

Let's be abundantly clear:

The only legitimate response to violence is to denounce it—especially political violence. Instead, too often we double down, promoting more violence in the aftermath. That twisted logic is why America drowns in gunfire.

For further context, In 2005 my parents were shot. My dad survived. My mom did not. That loss has defined my life. For 20 years I’ve worked in gun violence prevention, now with @bradyunited.org , to fight for stronger gun laws so fewer families live through the pain mine has carried.

We must collectively reject violence and the violent rhetoric that fuels it, before it is too late.

A democracy solves its differences through the ballot box, not the bullet box. This idea is not a partisan one. It is the fundamental footing upon which our constitution and Country stands.
