Big night in sports!

West side of Downtown is still suffering the most. West of 5th St SW vacancy is 40.1%. East of 5th it is 27.2%

This is quite the statistic. As oil sands development matures, it will take fewer people to run things. AI and offshoring will only exacerbate this trend. (see Imperial recent announcement) #yyccc #ableg #oott

Fascinating finding on the effect of banning smartphones in the class. The bottom half of the class improved, but students in the top quartile did slightly worse than the control group (who kept their phones).

Obviously UCP policy on bike lanes is a step backwards. But places like 1st street on my commute - no bike lanes but bikes routinely out number cars and just "take the lane" - make me wonder if it will really be worse for bikes or cars. #yyccc #ableg #yycbike

Ironic part is that families with children are being priced out of the neighbourhood. A recent community newsletter highlighted 3 other new developments - all massive single family bungalows. These sell for $2-3 million. Redevelopment is welcome - As long as you are rich!

This Bow Tr pedestrian crossing is horrendous since they put in the U-turn. This family was waiting to cross when we arrived. After waiting several minutes, I froggered across against the light. As far as I know that family is still waiting there. #yycbike #yyccc @yyctransport.bsky.social

Streetview of this location from 2020. Often it is worse if they aren't right against the curb. #yycbike.

Your new #yyc neighborhood may not be a racetrack, but the city sure designed it like one. #yyccc #visionzero

This is phenomenal. Despite a growing economy and increasing population, Calgary has brought rents down 10% y-o-y thanks to new supply from zoning relaxation, office to residential conversions etc. #yyccc deserves a lot of credit for this. #costofliving
May 9, 2025 at 2:36 PM
Interesting to note, after CNRL's acquisition of Chevron's Alberta assets, Chevron Plaza is almost totally vacant. The report hints at potential for a residential conversion, but it seems an unlikely candidate.

Colliers relatively upbeat about the Downtown office market in #yyc.

Good grief. Who at the Conservative party is going "Guys, now is the time to really lean in to the Trumpian rhetoric" #cdnpoli

Can't wait to see the results of this totally scientific poll!

It does look like they are adding bigger switch backs to the path which should help with the grade. "Pathway Construction" is listed in Phase 2 though which is "Summer and Fall 2025", so I think this closure could be all summer? #yycbike

Nice day out there, but if you haven't got your bike tuned up yet, you might be out of luck!

I'm making soup at my mother in-laws house. She is very hard of hearing and my soup almost ended up with a cup of Bailey's in it rather than a couple of bay leaves. #nojoke
