Colbert and Capitulation
The end of "The Late Show" isn’t ultimately about budgets, it’s a sign of the ideological shift at CBS that will take place under David Ellison's Skydance Media.

If Republicans *really* thought their cruel cuts were going to help the country, they wouldn't have deviously made them go into effect only *after* the Midterms.

They KNOW they are going to hurt people. They just don't care as long as it doesn't hurt them.

People living under fascism didn’t survive by giving up joy—they protected it.

They held onto the things fascism tried to erase: art, friendship, jokes, rituals, language, memory.

Not as escapism but as resistance. As proof they were still human.

Joy isn’t frivolous under fascism. It’s strategic.

The GOP passed a budget that will eviscerate health care in rural areas. They delayed much of the impact for after the midterms, hoping the public will think any discussion of the impending collapse is hyperbolic.

Local reporters have a chance to do service journalism that'll make a splash too.

Donald Trump bombed Iran tonight, not because they are about to have nuclear weapons (they are not), but because he needed a distraction from his tanking poll numbers and his deeply unpopular "Big Beautiful Bill."

He doesn't care who gets killed, Iranians or Americans, to help HIM.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.
