I know, I know - maybe too early for Christmas songs. But if you want a new one, which starts off a bit silly and turns sad, this is for you 😁🎄🎄🎄

My story "Everywhere is Everywhere and Anywhere Else is Nowhere" is in the newly-published Dragon Gems Spring 2025 anthology (among many other great stories).
Everywhere is Everywhere and Anywhere Else is Nowhere
My story, "Everywhere is Everywhere and Anywhere Else is Nowhere," was published eighteen months ago in top Scottish SF magazine Shoreline of Infinity. It's always lovely to have a story picked up and given a second life, so I'm pleased that it's being republished in the latest anthology from Water Dragon Publishing, the Dragon Gems Spring 2025 Anthology. …

I'm reading Ian Leslie's great new book on McCartney and Lennon, and it led me to this fabulous video of the Beatles doing Hey Jude.

Beatles songs are so familiar, it can be gard to hear them. Leslie's book gave me new ears 🙂

Writing-wise, most ridiculous moment of decade was as writer-guest for a workshop held at someone's house. During the workshop, I got a massive headache & asked for aspirin. Someone gave me aspirin after which I began to itch. "Sorry--gave u my anti-itching pills by mistake." 1/?

The editors at The SFWA Blog @sfwa.bsky.social love a good opportunity to broaden the conversation about SFF. Lívian Bonato helps us with that task this week, with a look at how Brazilian SFF is building better from local histories of demographic stereotypes.

Lots to learn from thinking globally!
Decolonizing History in Brazilian SFF - SFWA
Despite many recent additions to global science fiction and fantasy (SFF), Eurocentrism is still a challenge in many fictional universes. Today, SFF demands authentic representation.

Dead Girls Don't Dream has been out in the world for two months today. It came out the week after the election, which was...not exactly ideal for promotion. If you like angry girls, body horror, folklore, the New England that rich people ignore, please give it a read. ninocipri.com/booksmerch/

Great way to start the new year! New SF story "Go Your Own Way" is out now in the latest edition of the splendid Analog SF magazine.
Go Your Own Way – Out Now
No better way to start the new year than to make my debut in Analog Science Fiction and Fact, a magazine that gave birth to so many of the SF stories that inspired me when I was a kid. "Go Your Own Way" is the fourth in my "Way" series. You can read about earlier instalments (and read one of them) …

Surprised to see velociraptor so low. A friend's daughter is planning to call her child Velociraptor. (If female - apparently Stegasaurus is better suited to a boy.)
A new 166m year old dinosaur trackway has been discovered in Oxfordshire, with footprints from cetiosauruses and a megalosaurus

The real crowd-pleaser would have been a T-Rex, though, which our recent poll found is Britain's favourite dinosaur, at 30%
