Hello!

I'm Chris, a Texan living in the UK for nearly 30 years.

I'm a freelance consultant DevOps / Platform Engineer, running my own company, and I look for contracts focussing on Kubernetes and/or Terraform.

I'm interested in gardening, photography, cooking, travel, nature, druidry, and gaming

Commuting into London on the train once or twice a week for the next 6 months. I remember telling people I was too old for this shit 10 years ago. That said, I was doing it daily with a bike just 6 years ago. Feels like I'm WAY too old now. 😭

All these hot takes are getting boring now. Time to setup a temporary mute on any post with "AWS" and "outage" for my own sanity. 😅

How about some random music and talk from some of the best community, public, and internet radio stations? Now with temporary physics based autumn leaves...

I found out today, my existing contract is winding up! So, if anyone in the UK or Europe is looking for a contract DevOps or Platform Engineer who specialised in Terraform, Kubernetes, GitOps, and CI/CD, let me know!

I'm keeping an eye out for an outside IR35, mostly remote role, but I'm flexible.

Controversial Opinion: Not to name any names, but I've learned in the last week that, not all Cloud Native Computing Foundation "graduated" projects are fit for purpose...

I've found 1 powerful tool that devops teams don't want to implement EVERYWHERE I go. Now I understand why. 😅

I thought it might be interesting to collect everything I've asked AI about in the last week. I'll be curious to see what Bluesky blocklists I land on for daring to use AI tools. 😅

I don't play Warhammer 40k. I probably never will. But I love the lore and want to paint one.

These are very bad times.

But there are a lot of good people here.

We must continue to take care of one another and fight for one another.

That's always been the work, that's always the work.

What's the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear the word "CloudWatch"? 🌥️

This is the first question I ask in my CloudWatch talks and in every project where AWS is the main cloud provider.

It mostly sums up to this:

Unboxing my new Keychron Q3 Max (ISO) mechanical keyboard. This is a seriously heavy keyboard with a super-satisfying sound and feel to the keys. I went with the Banana Tactile Gateron Jupiter switches.

I'll use this or my Ergodox EZ depending on where I'm at.

Our DevOps is besieged. Across a thousand builds we fight for a clean pipeline. Those that would tear our containers down are legion. Our platform engineers are few, our developers many. There is no respite. There is no mercy. There is no end to Oracle bills.
