Robert F. Kennedy Jr. denies being anti-vax. But in repopulating a CDC advisory committee with like-minded allies, he is serving the most core goal of the anti-vaccine movement: eroding access to, and trust in, immunization, @katherinejwu.com writes.
RFK Jr. Is Barely Even Pretending Anymore
America’s anti-vaccine era is truly beginning.

Doctors who profited from pro RFK propaganda articles have no right to complain about him now.

When medicine and science were under attack, they gave ammunition to its attackers instead of standing against them.

Silence is their only appropriate reaction now.

This is hilarious. Jay Batttacharia, the current director of NIH, doesn't realize that NIH already has research grants dedicated to new PIs and Early Stage Investigators (ESIs). What a novel idea Jay!

I am doing my best to hold down the fort on the “other app.” I hate how the reproducibility crisis is being weaponized against the whole idea of science and being blamed on hiring practices. It was an honor to peer review for JACS and I’d love to do so again if given the opportunity.

In fact I was extremely clear about what my take home message was from this interview and felt that came across in the article. I don’t give a fuck about Clippy Metzl’s quote. He’s not presented as an expert. Mike and I are.

I talked to @robsteinnews.bsky.social @npr.org about my views on the new LAB (TRUMP) LEAK website.

This website is not scientifically or factually accurate. It's propaganda intended to justify wiping out America's entire capacity for public health and science.

As one of the scientists interviewed for this piece, I disagree that this is how my comments or my expertise were portrayed in this article.

I didn’t appreciate when Alina Chan promoted her book with hot takes that presumed to speak for me & my colleagues. I don’t appreciate it here either.

And any doctor who normalized this whole pretending to care about tone didn’t help either.

We should expect a lot of coincidental & purportedly “scientific” breaking reports from Federal departments published in the next week or two that claim to have found “new evidence” of a change from a previous conclusion or policy. Rest assured it’s likely politically motivated and dubious at best.

I’m still trying to fight the good fight and represent science well on twitter. But I find it hilarious when some tech bro anti-vaxxer is trying to lecture me about “the Reproducibility Crisis” when they can’t even tell me what type of data is the hardest to reproduce…

Actually, that you care about the well being of antivaxxers doesn’t make you unique as you imply.

I’m sure most docs here are kind to their patients who don’t get vaccinated.

But if more people knew RFK was a lying crank, there would be fewer antivaxxers.

Interesting follow-up on this. We're running automated analyses on H5N1 data on the SRA to look for potentially important mutations in the virus.

Following the study 👇, we looked to see if we could find *any* evidence of the HA Q226L mutation.

We did. In a mouse from June of this year.

Short 🧵
If an #H5N1 pandemic starts tomorrow or in three months, there will be little mystery as to how it happened. The conditions are all there. They have been for a while.
So in some ways the more interesting question to me at the moment is: Why aren’t we in a pandemic yet?
Story here, 🧵 to come:

Why hasn’t the bird flu pandemic started?
Some scientists examining mutations found in H5N1 viruses fear major outbreak is imminent but others says pathogen remains unpredictable
