Railway press officer, Norwich City follower, terrible bass player.
The difference between LU and the LA Metro (and much of US public transport) is that everyone in London uses the Tube/trains/buses. Weirdos, drug users etc are much less diluted on US transit outside NY.

Aside from Leeds, I’d say we are as good as the others on our day and it all depends on whether we keep giving everyone one goal head starts.
So I think 10 points from 15, allowing for cock ups.
Also I have a ticket for Bramall Lane so we have to win that one 👀

The trouble with getting your comms team to write apologies is they never sound remotely like they come from the people involved. And I speak as a press officer!

I guess by cutting it back to Brum they solved that problem… 👀

Especially as it was always seen as a vital part of HS2 - taking the pressure off the Vic and indeed the whole of Euston underground station. All those years of cheap money, wasted utterly.

Back in the 90s, when the Championship was a bit pants and Nodge were solidly mid to lower table, the cup was a chance for fun and excitement…
Now the Champs is superb and Norwich are thrilling to watch (if also just as likely to lose as they are to win) the cup just isn’t so vital for me.

It is beautiful.
Shot in 17 days, paid for by the toilet company in Shibuya, and still an incredible piece of art.

Hahaha yeah those bloomin’ railways with their social mobility!
January 9, 2025 at 7:38 PM
Agreed. Remember the South Africa World Cup with hardly any goals thanks to the awful, awful ball?
Re: the Multiplex - I couldn’t kick that out of the area it was so heavy. If you saved a shot as a keeper it was like being hit with a cannonball and heading it was just foolhardy dementia fodder.

Is that the military equivalent of a bundle?

Yesyesyes!
Saw it today and it is perfect filmmaking. Hits every beat, never stops moving. Brilliant

The dude spent more than a year at Premier Inns? Surely that’s deserving of some sort of counselling, not prosecution!

Banning you from the hearing is disgraceful. Abysmal from Enfield there and I’m guessing they think they can get away with it as nobody else will cover the story.

Mancini!
He wrote the music to my favourite train film, Silver Streak, and then judiciously re-used the theme at different times over the years…notably here with the titles for Hotel.

There was a great Tweet I can’t find now that said something like “the people who say they hate London inevitably live in a town where the best restaurant is a Cote”.

… and everyone will blame the mayor and say he’s really unpopular and London is terrible and then he will be re-elected and given a knighthood…

No argument there, it’s just that I know from experience of working with ARL (and TfL) that they are very focussed on performance (one obviously following the other) so I wonder if that drop off was simply changing organisations etc. who knows?

You just know that actor was about 35.

National Rail contracts are now very similar regardless of whether they are “private” or Directly Operated (so South Western or Southeastern for example). All ticket revenue goes straight to Govt and operators make a management fee. Hence “nationalisation” has essentially already happened. /ends!
January 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM
Sorry to intrude on the thread but Overground has always been run like that - it has never been franchised. Arriva won the contract from MTR/Laing in 2016 and it follows the same structure.
Revenue risk is limited and hence profits are also dependent on hitting reliability targets etc. /1

I have a lifelong dislike of Jane Austen that began in school (Sense and Sensibility take a bow) but that pales in comparison to my visceral loathing of I Capture the Castle.
I thought I may have misjudged both books and tried to read them again when I was older and wiser.
I hated them EVEN MORE.

I really enjoyed that, thank you.
It’s been a long time coming.
