The claims that the ALA is engaged in a secret pro-LGBTQ+ campaign trying to undermine traditional values is a right-wing talking point as old as time. Here's an example from January 1983.

When you're teaming up with the KKK to make your claims, you're not the good ones in the story.

LGBTQ+ people’s rights are being stripped globally in areas where online ID checks are being implemented. This is not fear-mongering- the name of the game is control. The goal is to censor us off the internet + trans people are the canaries in the coal mine.

Age Verification Is Locking Trans People Out of the Internet | TechPolicy.Press
Experts tell Dia Kayyali and Jasmine Mithani that age verification, sold as a fix for kids’ online safety, expands surveillance and deepens discrimination.

A federal judge last week rightfully ruled the Trump administration overstepped his authority by sending immigrants to be detained at Guantánamo Bay.

This is welcome news, but not enough — we're asking the courts to shut down the detention operation there entirely.

One of Houston’s prominent LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations is backing a resolution that would block Mayor John Whitmire from receiving the endorsement of the Harris County Democratic Party for his reelection campaign in 2027.
Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus supports barring Mayor Whitmire from receiving Democratic endorsement
The advocacy group cited the city’s collaboration with federal immigration authorities, the removal of Montrose’s rainbow crosswalks and Whitmire’s attendance at a Republican fundraiser as justification.

Read @nicolefoy.bsky.social's investigation that prompted the congressional probe.

We found that agents had detained >170 Americans this year. More than 20 citizens said they were held for at least a day without being able to contact a lawyer or their loved ones.

One barrier is ID checks. Imagine living in one of the 12 U.S. states where abortion is illegal and just trying to learn about abortion on Reddit or YouTube then having to hand over your ID. If at any point you actually seek out an abortion, this info can be used to incriminate you.
The U.S. is mirroring a pattern that has happened in authoritarian regimes around the world. When a government erects barriers to reproductive care, it doesn’t just cause death and suffering for women and their families. Such policies are often a first step in the gradual decline of democracies.
Opinion | Banning Abortion a Hallmark of Authoritarian Regimes
Seda Saluk writes about how U.S. policy on abortion rights has started to mirror patterns seen in authoritarian regimes around the world.

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.
