I was fully expecting that "60 Minutes" segment about CECOT to leak eventually (because we live in the future and stuff like that doesn't stay under wraps for long), but I have to say that I'm truly surprised by how fast it happened.

Our solstice was quiet but cheerful. French toast for breakfast. Presents everyone was happy about. AdultKid spent the evening out at a friend's gathering. I made a lovely ham dinner. @aureanator.bsky.social and I had some eggnog.

Happy solstice! May this longest night find you safe, warm, loved, and ready to greet to get the lengthening days. ♥️☀️✨

I went to the dentist yesterday for a cleaning, and I mentioned at the front desk that I'll be visiting Hyderabad soon. One of the front desk ladies LIT UP, and said, "Ooh, Hyderabad has AMAZING food. You will have so much fun! Best biryani in the world!" Hyderabadis, represent! 😄

I've now achieved muumuu-wearing status. I can feel my "no fucks given" levels rising precipitously.

Going into 2026 like...

I did it! It's definitely not butter cookies or sewing supplies. 😜

Now we eagerly wait for solstice. 👀

Yup. My days are too short. I love the idea of those people shouting in an empty room. Leave me and my food pics alone.
"Bluesky is an echo chamber."
"Bluesky doesn't have enough reach"
"Liberals must return to X to challenge the far right"

I'm not a tech bro or a journalist. Your priorities are not my priorities. Stop telling me I need to do anything other than chat about comics & telly with people who seem nice.

It's eggnog day! The aged eggnog is ready to crack open (for QA purposes of course, since solstice isn't until next weekend 😜). And I'm baking the black cake today so it can age for a week before solstice night. My house is gonna start smelling REALLY seasonal in a few hours. 🤩
Happy Thanksgiving! 🇨🇦 We did our annual neighborhood Friendsgiving potluck with our next door neighbor on Saturday, so today is reserved for soaking fruits for black cake and starting the eggnog to age for solstice night. I'm starting from zero this year, so the shopping list is wild. 🍷🥃

since moving to canada, i've come to realize that i should be exercising, not in order to gain/maintain a summer body, but rather to gain/maintain a WINTER body. i'd really rather not die of a heart attack while shoveling snow, thanks.

Reminds me of my grandmother towards the end of her life. She'd make all kinds of promises, and then the next week, completely deny it. Even being presented with a recorded conversation of her saying those things didn't matter. She just said what worked in the moment, then the moment was gone.

I can't tell you how much I love this. Yes, very good work, neighbor.
One of my neighbors has been putting up these fish facts posters. All kinds of different fish, marine, freshwater, deep, shallow, all kinds. This is a good one. “Stg this real fish” took me out. Good work, neighbor.

it's really something that when you search for sundowning on here, every single post is about trump. and there is no headline about that administration that doesn't have me beside myself. it's awe-inspiring that so many people are fighting back in all kinds of ways, but dear gawd, so many battles.
December 6, 2025 at 3:17 AM
today, i took the cat to the vet for more bloodwork, made an almond cake at @aureanator.bsky.social 's request, and submitted two indian tourist visa applications. the cat's doing great, the cake was lovely, and the applications? sigh. one more to go.

Does this strike anyone else as a weird thing to have a strong opinion about? But people do.

There's no cousins walk and turkey dinner with all the trimmings for me today, but getting stoned and then prepping chicken for frying tomorrow while listening to Alice's Restaurant is close enough, right? 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving 🇺🇸!

Since we're in the spirit of sharing holiday culinary opinions, I will throw down the gauntlet and say that I LIKE roast turkey. I've had plenty of dry, bland, disappointing turkey along the way, but GOOD turkey with a dollop of cranberry sauce (either canned or fresh is fine) is divine.

I, too, am a fan of the intensely silly, passionate, low-stakes pie discourse. Even the rage-bait is instructive. 😄😄

TIL I learned that @aureanator.bsky.social didn't know that cats and dogs don't have a set number of nipples. Our dinner table conversations are... something. 😄

How I often feel while trying to talk to AdultKid about his future plans:

Somewhat relatedly, after three tries to submit a photo that IRCC didn't reject, AdultKid's PR card finally arrived today, a full three months after @aureanator.bsky.social and I got ours. So now he's fully credentialed and ready to look for a job. 👀

i will add, though, that i really feel for the temporary foreign workers waiting in the permanent residency pipeline. the impending huge cuts to the number of temporary foreign worker and student visas issued are going to leave a lot of people in very shitty positions. we had heard rumblings...
The wait-and-see attitude that I have about the budget the parliament voted on on Monday is a pretty common one, I think. Mainly, I think the public appreciates the face-saving gyrations that the opposition parties performed to avoid an election. Everybody's tired, man.

Ugh, I am SO TIRED of seeing that man's name and face in the news. Jeezus FlippingTables Christ. The spectacle of the impending breakdown of his regime does not comfort me, in that it will be just as loud, messy, and destructive as the installation of it. And reported on just as luridly.

Every day during LittleKid's naptime, I have to choose between taking some downtime to hear myself think; OMG GoDoSomethingRightNowOrElse; taking a nap myself; or Actually Interacting with my husband. Every day, I pick the wrong thing. It's a common problem, I know. But man, so disheartening.
