In terms of reading volume for me Fantasy had a slight edge but much smaller than previous years

I was about to make a generalisation then realised I could just go check my spreadsheet and have facts.

These are the genres of the things I've read this year that were published this year that I gave five stars to. So 50/50 fantasy and SF. If you forced me to say, the spec ones would be 1 F, 1 SF

Lote by Shola von Reinhold because it's been on the tbr AGES

One of my two Sophus Helle translations that have also been on the tbr FOREVER

And then at least one thing off my netgalley queue that's past pub date (probably Portalmania by Debbie Urbanski.

Fantasy: A Short History by Adam Roberts because Ed has already had great mileage deploying facts from it and I want in

The Stone Boatmen by Sarah Tolmie (another of strong recs)

The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling (strong recs for this and Starling generally).

Starting with the most likely reads:

Sea Now by Eva Meijer (tr. Anne Thompson Melo) because so many recommendations

Luminous by Silvia Park likewise

Under the Eye of the Big Bird by Hiromi Kawakami aaand again (and so I can listen to AMOT)

Slow Gods by Claire North, same, and it sounds great...
