As a theorist, I am absolutely useless and can tell you nothing. HOWEVER, my friend the wonderful @philplait.bsky.social is NOT useless and has great advice & relevant links here! ⤵️

Preach brother!! Even amongst all the other crappy corporate 80s, this was quite a low.
ABSOLUTELY NOT

This is a trash song with trash lyrics and trash production that is the absolute worst thing ever to escape Bernie Taupin's head, it sounds like cocaine heavily cut with baby powder and expired laxative feels, if 80s pop music were the Hapsburgs, this song is Charles II of Spain.
“We Built This City” is a good song, actually www.pastemagazine.com/music/starsh... I never understood the hate for that song. There are truly terrible songs. This isn't one of them.

Over on Whatever, I'm doing a series on movies I consider "Comfort Watches" - not the greatest movies of all time, necessarily, but some of the most rewatchable. I'm starting the series with easily the most rewatchable movie of 2025: K-Pop Demon Hunters!

Maybe another way to think of it is as the "participation line" - the income one needs to fully participate in expected aspects of US life without worrying about plunging into deprivation one way or another

An investor called $140,000 the new poverty line. Experts disagreed but said he had a point.
Michael Green’s tally of the costs of raising a family in the U.S. today is going viral, even if some economists scoff at his math.

Another way of looking at this is if each of the US’s 19,000 cities, towns & villages had their own solar thermal plant, THE MEAN AVERAGE would be 2sq km or .77sq miles.

Less than a square mile doesn’t seem so bad, does it.
One ~182km x ~211km solar thermal plant could provide all of America’s electricity, including a fully-electrified land transport sector.

100% clean power from just 0.39% of U.S land.

That’s why renewables are constantly under attack from the fossil fuel industry and their paid mouthpieces.
