The part where the US has fucked up is not having proper background checks. If you want to buy a gun, you fill out a form, lie about having never smoked pot, and they call it in and make sure you don't have any priors. Except the states don't always tell the Feds about convictions/psych holds.

As long as guns are easily available to crazy people, mass killings directed at so-called soft targets will continue. This is a fact. Countries where it's more difficult for crazy people to obtain guns have less shootings. This is also a fact. Do with these facts as you will.

Chemtrails might be the stupidest conspiracy theory. Sure, these guys were spraying mind-controlling/weather modifying chemicals, the thousands of tons of thermite and steel-wrapped RDX they dropped on cities was just a distraction from what the were REALLY doing. 🙄

"Negotiation" is one way to put it, I guess, in that Donitz didn't take a long walk on a short rope and Hirohito got to stay as a powerless figurehead. Of course, Donitz's predecessor was a coward and ... y'know.

Can anybody identify this car? I found it while looking for something else on Google Maps, and the photo is from 2022, so it's probably gone, but ... I'm pretty into '50s American cars, but this one's got me stumped.

If you've ever worked any kind of customer-facing job, you'd know it takes about three days before you stop caring and just roll with it. Like back in the day there were jokes about buying weird combinations of items to mess with the cashier, like condoms, rope, duct tape, and a shovel

The current American political climate isn't McCarthyism, this is ... the thing that was about five years before McCarthyism, in Europe.
For the record, we are well beyond McCarthyism at this point. My grandfather was jailed under McCarthyism. My family knows from McCarthyism. It was an extremely dangerous time. But the comparison pales in the face of what we are seeing right now.
To be honest, I don't think I would attempt to become a citizen of this country at this point in time.
