It's a combination of a bunch of things, I think -- history is just moving faster in general -- but if you had to single out a culprit, it's got to be the internet & social media. It's never been more visible to everyone that the social order *could be otherwise*, that's it's essentially arbitrary.

This is your take.

My take is that in the US, we often don't realize how horrific something that happens to Black men all the time is, until it starts happening to non-Black people.

Pointing out that 50K people are in ICE detention, but 200,000 Black people are in pretrial detention, works.
And one reason it is counterproductive in my opinion to make it is that there is a definite effort to ask us to ignore immigrants‘ situation because “Americans have it so bad and we don’t have capacity” and we need to reject that conservative rhetorical frame

My friend and fellow menswear writer Bruce Boyer is fond of saying that clothes are more important than most people think, but less important than fashion people think. I'm of the same mind. I'm of the same mind. I think it's perfectly fine to use clothing to communicate something about yourself.

I know very few people who think the cost of public transit is prohibitive.

It’s that public transit in the US is treated in most cities like the thing you slap on after the fact.
