Activists and police warn the attacks are part of a larger social media trend where straight teens and adults target and lure gay men for assault. www.advocate.com/crime/illino...

Hey Astro folks, a bit of news on the Orion/Meade auction that now isn't.
Looks like the Orion/Meade auction is over. Someone came in and bought everything, possibly an existing telescope company and I hope we'll find out soon.

Hey! U.S. AND CANADIAN FOLKS!

The Moon will be DIRECTLY in front of the Pleiades star cluster this evening.

Probably easier for Eastern/Central/Mountain zones to see as the times will be ~ 8 / 7 / 6 pm respectively.

Use binoculars! Better than a telescope due to wider field of view anyway.

This morning's sky was completely grey (falling snow will do that, lol) so here's a view of my sunset last night.

And good morning BlueSky! Happy Friday.

Me, parking 4 spaces away from nearest car.

Still sitting IN my car.

People still park RIGHT next to my car.

Why?!?

Leave some space like I did.

Argh!

How's your day?

Where are all the billionaire philanthropists when we need them? If I were a fraction as wealthy, I would be on the phone to save this museum TODAY.

Stocks surged more than 24 percent in 2024, even as Americans fretted over the economy. Of course, you’d never know that from the media coverage during the months leading up to the election.

Fraser Stoddart was among the first scientists I interviewed as a writer at @cenmag.bsky.social, and I always enjoyed writing about work from his group. He was also one of the most media-savvy scientists I know. I will miss his correspondence and seeing him at meetings.
