OPINION: Malcolm X saw beyond America’s carefully crafted image of itself as the land of the free. He exposed the contradiction between its rhetoric of democracy and its practice of imperialism.
60 years after Malcolm X's killing, his message can't be silenced or ignored
(RNS) — Malcolm X understood something painfully relevant today: The American empire does not just oppress — it manipulates. It does not just colonize — it gaslights.

In the absence of social media enabling them to find each other, form a movement, and seize political power, we'd recognize much of the far-right as just profoundly psychologically and emotionally unwell people, the way we can see that Kanye's Nazism is part of his acute mental illnesses.
One of the most striking things about social media is how it allows us to watch people lose their minds in real time. Imagine seeing a movie you like or a ubiquitous symbol and talking yourself into seething with rage.

I am really frustrated that the press is discussing the destruction of USAID as something that has happened rather than an illegal action that will likely be undone in two weeks when courts tell the world that it was illegal.

Academics and researchers are receiving emails from their higher-ups, explaining that rules are changing and their institutions are carefully monitoring the situation.

Have any university higher-ups sent emails saying "We continue to be unwavering in our support for the rights of all human beings?"

I find it difficult to keep separate in my mind the sins and crimes of the new leaders of the US government. Who paid a teenager for sex? Who paid a woman $50,000 to quell a lawsuit for rape?

So I am now just thinking of them as a group and describing the whole bunch as The Marauders.
