Inspiring! especially just one week after I did the TMB myself. Enjoy it and run safe!
It's nearly time! Heading out later today for UTMB, a lumpy 110ish miles around Mont-Blanc. If anyone fancies (slow) dot watching, you can follow at live.utmb.world/utmb/2025/utmb

They call it high-risk high-reward research, reminds me of some crazy ideas in history, like dam the Bering strait. But who knows, from a practical point of view, these might be somehow more feasible than global climate cooperation. I don't know which is more absurd. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

totally stunned, how come such a major institution be this vulnerable, with no real countermeasures in place? This is unbelievable
NEW: No fewer than 10 principle scientists at NIH investigating emerging infectious diseases and neural disorders were among those fired by RFK Jr. today.

One is an esteemed scientist awarded for breakthrough research into the causes of Parkinson's disease.

Very cool data and visualization. So many people got sick/infected recently, well explained by the influenza and RSV trends.

It was surprising. But I assume they mean dry weight, or the pellets, not the fresh tissue?
Curious to hear what people think about this new study on microplastics in human brains. The concentrations were about 4mg/g brain, which is about 5.2gr of plastic in an adult brain. For reference, a plastic bottle cap of a large energy drink is about 3-4gr. 🧐

An interesting read. Publish a hit paper during post doc is more likely to stay in academia, which makes sense. A moderate change in topics and moving abroad for postdoc is more related to success. The prestige of the institute still matters. Wondering how they chose the top 10 institutions.

If you are at AGU this week, please come to my talk on Monday 11:10 at MC 3007 (B12B-06). I will present using molecular composition of SOM to predict soil respiration.

Please also consider join us at session B31D and B33J on Wednesday. Looking forward to seeing you! #AGU23 #Biogeosciences
