Nanny, Sylvester, the talking blob always got me reaching for Cracked over Mad when I was a kid. In either case we don't talk enough about just how many top notch artists (Ward, Davis, Severin, Drucker, Aragones...ect) those mags boasted.

I love reading Mad, but as a kid I preferred Cracked Magazine- Yeah I know Cracked was a Mad knock off, but I dug the rotating cast of characters they'd work in.

The Long Walk was a pleasant surprise; for a story thats literally walk 'til you drop, they made it work. Not sure I'd call it scary or a horror, but its Stephen King.

I had hopes it'd be good, but fears that 2 hours of people walking would be hard to stick the landing; it exceeded expectations. I found it to be a bit of commentary on our modern disconnect to reality beyond our screens as the movies boys knew what was coming but shocked when it happened to them.

I have mixed feelings about the Shining; on one hand I can't think of a movie with as many iconic shots, but on the other I don't think it captured the book as well- not that thats necessarily a bad thing; the Stephen Webber as Jack 2 part tv movie was a more direct adapt, but fails to make a mark.

...I felt challenged and like I was making growth as an artist. Still so much room to grow, but a lot of fun.

I tried this maybe 3 years ago getting around 15-20 pieces done and the growth and creativity i felt was rewarding- I'd always been more of a doodler or making up comic covers for my made up heroes as a kid- I'd tried some life drawing drop ins during the pandemic, but this was the first time... 1/

I'm gonna check it out for Shane Black, but I had similar reservations about Wahlberg- but at this point Parker has hit Bond levels of different actors, so I'll appreciate if even the movie can hold up its end, then be happy if Wahlberg is at least passable.

DelDuca decided to make a road his main attack point in 2022, while the NDP campaigned against the Libs- not exactly standout stuff for leader branding. On the LPO website under Bonnie's bio the first sentence was about DoFo. 2 years of Marit who? Progressives could learn lessons on leader branding.

I was picking up those vibes too- all the crowds looking the CPC caucus- plus the clumsiness of the Sons of Liberty, the crying kid, Peacemakers brother dropping the helicopter practically on the crowd-

I'll reserve my empathy for those who will inevitably be wrongly caught up in and suffer from the backlash over this, as the MAGA idiots are going to see this as open season on any dissent now.

I think Ackles worked here as this story is very early in Batman's career (sometime early post year 1)- so his more youthful, slightly less controlled approach gives him room to grow.

Lots of fun- maybe not as gonzo and extreme as classic Troma, but exceeded in delivering a more polished cohesive experience than I expected- will definitely get repeat viewings.

Mad, and Cracked, kinda hit that 9-13 year old me sense of humour that maybe doesn't resonate as much anymore, what still hits all these years later and is criminally under praised was the art- Martin, Severin, Dragons, Davis, Drucker- such fantastic stuff.

I get that Hollywood is a business, but maybe not staking claim to unrealistic release dates before even having a finished script would help across the board, including VFX where they wouldn't be racking up OT & sub contracts to get the picture done to meet their chosen date.
