And if they don’t have one yet (due to the prevalence of surprise designation fics), then it’s got to be more complicated than just a DNA screening, which probably means epigenetics are involved to a significant degree. Or magic, maybe? IDK 😂

Yeah, if we’re in modern times, and if it’s an omegaverse world where there are serious legal ramifications to your designation, my assumption would be OF COURSE people have a DNA test, or there is $$$$$$ to be made in developing one. But again! I may be world building too much. XD

Oh, huh, I haven’t seen it with twins. But yeah, otherwise any “modern”-set fandom would just use genetic testing to find out the designation ahead of time if it were easily straightforward. Newborns get several screening done right after birth! (Or maybe I’m just overthinking people’s kink!world 😂)

I have only read a very little bit of it, but…I don’t think so? Or at least, it can’t be easily identified genetically in fandoms where genetic testing is possible because there is a lot of “so and so thought they would be Designation only to be so surprised they’re not” type fic.
